Jordan Jones regrets Rangers tweet as Kilmarnock transfer coup vows to make fans forget

Jordan Jones returned to Kilmarnock vowing to get the Rugby Park faithful back onside by scoring goals that will propel Derek McInnes ' men up the Scottish Premiership.

The Northern Ireland winger enraged the Killie support with a tweet celebrating his pre-contract agreement with Rangers in 2019 with a "WATP" sign-off but Jones immediately addressed the issue after penning a season-long loan deal from Wigan. The 27-year-old told the club website: "In terms of playing-wise, I spent a couple of the best years of my career here.

"I’ve had a difficult 12 months but I am desperate to get back to my best and what better place for me to do that than Kilmarnock, which feels like my home. I am here to help the team and hopefully we can have a really good season and achieve success together. With the fans, the majority appreciated what we all achieved in my last season here, but I know I made a few mistakes on my way out that I regret and if I could change that I would.

"Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. I am 27 now and a lot more mature, I am a dad now so life has changed a lot since then. I know the best way to get fans back singing my name is by scoring goals and creating assists and I am keen to get going as soon as possible. It was a bit of a mental feeling driving in this morning, it has been three years since I left the club and it is a special feeling to be back."

McInnes was thrilled to have landed Jones, who spent last season on loan at St Mirren, and believes returning to Ayrshire can help relaunch the wide man's career. The Killie boss said: "Jordan is obviously familiar to the club and we have been working hard on it for the last couple of weeks.

"We feel he is the type of player we are going to need. He will bring a bit more speed to the team, a bit more creativity and we need that added goal threat in the final third. Obviously, with Jordan being here before, helps matters. He comes in and there's no messing about - he's familiar with his surroundings.

"It's an important move for Jordan as well, in terms of playing regularly and getting his career going again. Signing players is a hard thing to do but we know the ones we want to try to bring in. We've been quite specific in terms of exactly what we need. I'm delighted to get Jordan in and if we get another one done before the weekend, that will help us as well."
