Jordan Hugill has insisted whether or not he returns to Cardiff City next year ultimately depends on whether his parent club Norwich City want to keep him.
Hugill has been impressive since arriving from the Canaries on loan in January and on Wednesday night notched the winning goal in a 2-1 triumph over Stoke City. Cardiff have, in fact, lost only two of the 11 games in which he has featured.
The 29-year-old has three goals to his name, as well as two assists, in his 11 Bluebirds league matches, but his all-round play has been terrific and he has endeared himself to the Bluebirds faithful. It has led to many wanting to see the forward return to the Welsh capital next season, although the chances of that happening look slim as things stand.

"We would have to see what would happen," he said when asked about whether he sees himself coming back next term. "Obviously, I've got a year left at Norwich and I'd like to see what would happen there first. I've got a good pre-season planned with them initially.
"So, it's not down to me, it's down to who wants me. I'm just focusing on playing well, finishing this season, getting as high up in this league as we can and then, ultimately, I'll be going back to Norwich and hitting the ground running with them, because that's my parent club."
Hugill said right from the outset that his primary focus was to send a message to Dean Smith and his parent club to prove to them that he has what it takes to be a success in East Anglia.
Asked whether he had sent a message to Norwich, he replied: "I'd like to think so. My goal of coming here was to play well and to prove that I'm a good asset to Norwich and to Cardiff, which I feel as though I've done.
"Who knows what happens from next season, I'm not thinking that far ahead, I'm just thinking about getting as high up that table as possible."
In all likelihood, it looks as though the Canaries will be playing in the same division as Cardiff next season. Smith's side are rock bottom of the Premier League and time is running out for them to perform what would now be a miraculous escape from the drop zone.
If Norwich do drop down into the Championship, it appears far more likely that Hugill would have a key role for them next year. But the striker does not believe his future there solely depends on which division they are in.
"I don't really worry about what's going on there," he said. "I'm here and I'm focused on this. Honestly, I'd love for them to stay up and then it gives me a fresh chance in the Premier League - that would be ideal.
"Regardless of what happens, I'd like to think I'm doing well enough here to prove I've got a chance there next year."
The one thing that is certain right now is that Hugill is loving his time in the Welsh capital and so he should be. He has been terrific, the team have been excellent and from the players to the terraces, there is a real feelgood factor around the place.
For Hugill, it's all he hoped it would be.
"I'm really enjoying it," he added. "I hope you can tell on the pitch that I'm enjoying my football and I hope I'm rewarding the fans, the manager and the players with good performances and goals.
"I knew Cardiff were interested from the very start (of the January window). I looked into things in detail and had a few options, but I believed this was the right place. I knew the manager would play to my strengths, which is what we've done."
