Jordan Henderson sends Darwin Nunez warning after Sadio Mane Liverpool exit admission

Jordan Henderson believes Liverpool have plenty of 'attacking options' at their disposal and has backed Darwin Nunez to be a hit in the Premier League.

The Reds kick-off their Premier League campaign with a trip to Fulham on Saturday, having warmed up in the best possible way against Manchester City last weekend. Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez sealed a 3-1 win over Pep Guardiola’s side in the Community Shield at the King Power.

Despite winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup last season, the Reds were piped to the Premier League title and beaten in the Champions League final by Real Madrid. But speaking ahead of this weekend’s game at Craven Cottage, Henderson has backed his side’s forward players to do the business this season.

“We’ve got a lot of good forward players. Bobby [Roberto Firmino] has come back from injury last season, which is a massive boost for us,” he told talkSPORT.

“It’s like a new player coming back as he’s an important player to the way we play. Jota as well, who is injured at the minute, we’ve got him to come into the frame as well.

“Darwin and also Harvey Elliott, [Fabio] Carvalho has also come in and done really well on the wing. We’ve got a lot of attacking options I’m sure we will use at different moments of the season. We are looking good in that department for the season ahead.”

Liverpool’s big money transfer this summer has been Nunez, who made his first two appearances for the club following his £64million transfer from Benfica during their pre-season tour of Thailand and Singapore. Nunez played half an hour in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester United, and then a similar length of time in the 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

However, he endured frustrating moments in both games with a miss against United catching the eye. While in the win over Palace, Nunez was denied by goalkeeper Vicente Guaita with a close-range strike.

But after his four goals against RB Leipzig last month, the forward sealed the Community Shield for his side with a header from close-range at the King Power.

“I’ve been really impressed with him. He’s still a very young boy, but I’m seeing a lot of positive things, a lot of good things,” Henderson said when asked about Liverpool’s new arrival.

“I think he will give us something different as well up front. There’s a lot of potential there and he’s settled in, so hopefully he can start the season off in the Premier League really well.”

The Reds skipper also believes that his side have lost one of the best players in the world in Sadio Mane, who left Anfield earlier this summer to join Bayern Munich.

He said: “I think any team in the world would miss Sadio. For me, he’s one of the best players in the world and one of the best characters around the dressing room and around the place.

“He’s a great lad, always smiling and joking around and just really good to have around. Setting standards as well.

“Big miss for us, but that’s football. Life goes on. I wish him all the best and hopefully he does well at Bayern. We’ve brought a few new lads to this group now and hopefully we can adapt and change now Sadio is gone. Life goes on.”
