Jordan Henderson outburst overheard as Norwich chant speaks volumes about Liverpool

Liverpool continued their quest for the quadruple by seeing off the threat of Norwich City in the FA Cup.

Takumi Minamino scored twice as the Reds earned a narrow 2-1 fifth-round triumph against the relegation-threatened Premier League side on Wednesday.

The result means Jurgen Klopp’s side have reached the last eight of the competition for the first time under his tenure and have now lost just two of their last 51 games.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Anfield...

Henderson makes point

It was a pretty good evening all round for Takumi Minamino.

He even appeared able to halt play simply by wanting a drink from the touchline, as seemed to be the case during the final 10 minutes.

But even the Japan international couldn't avoid the wrath of Jordan Henderson after failing to give a return pass when the skipper went for a forward run during the second half.

"TAKI!" came a rather irate high-pitched shout from the captain. It didn't happen again.

Pain for Placheta

The first half was tough going for Norwich. And it ended in a particularly painful manner for one visiting player.

As referee Martin Atkinson blew for half-time, Canaries midfielder Przemyslaw Placheta went hurtling over the advertising hoardings at the Kop end while tussling with Kostas Tsimikas for possession before smashing into the concrete floor with an almighty thud.

There was real concern for several minutes before Placheta gingerly was back on his feet to applause from nearby fans and a hug from a worried Tsimikas.

The Norwich man was unable to continue after the interval, but Norwich boss Dean Smith later said there was no serious issue. Phew.

Canaries singing

Liverpool's dominance for much of the game prompted the hardy 1,200 Norwich fans - who made the trip from East Anglia for such a ridiculously late kick-off - to amuse themselves during the second half.

"We've got the ball, we've got the ball!" they sang when their team had rare possession, before switching to "We've lost the ball!" when they inevitably gave it away a few moments later.

That, though, all changed when Lukas Rupp gave the visitors hope with his strike to set up a tense final 15 minutes.

Thankfully for Liverpool, the only chants heard after full time were from the Kop celebrating another Reds win.

Ukraine support

Of course, Europe is sadly being reminded there are matters an awful lot more important than football at present.

Liverpool supporters developed an affinity for Ukraine and their people after Kiev hosted the 2018 Champions League final.

And there were several shows of support for their plight inside Anfield, with Ukrainian flags spotted in the Kop, the Main Stand and the Anfield Road end.

As one banner defiantly stated, they'll never walk alone.
