Jordan Henderson and Jess Park among stars up for inaugural Women's Football Awards

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Everton's Jess Park are among the nominees at the inaugural Women's Football Awards.

Hosted by Jamie Carragher and former England international Eni Aluko, the awards will seek to celebrate the people, brands and organisations who are contributing to the phenomenal growth of the women's game, with the flagship ceremony set to take place in London on May 25.

Everton forward Park - who is on loan at Walton Hall Park from Manchester City - has been one of the standout performers in the Women's Super League this term and is up for the Young Football Player of the Year Award. She will face stern competition from a host of exciting young talents including Liverpool's Missy Bo Kearns, whose displays in the middle of the park have helped the Reds edge toward a mid-table finish in their first season back in the top-flight.

Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson is one of a host of Premier League players in contention for Male Football Ally award for his efforts to promote women’s football. Lionesses Mary Earps, Beth Mead and Leah Williamson have all been nominated in the Player of the Year category, while Everton's commitment to the grassroots game means the club is up for Grassroots Initiative of the year.

Those advocating the growth of the women’s game will also be recognised as broadcaster Ian Wright, former England women’s manager Phil Neville and leading sports journalist Karen Carney are amongst those who will battle it out to be crowned Women’s Football Champion of the Year.

The Women's Football Awards, supported by SHEIN, come ahead of the 2023 Women's World Cup. The event has been backed by England internationals Jess Carter, Nikita Parris and Toni Duggan. Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Reece James and Everton star Conor Coady have given their support for the initiative as have Sky Sports News presenters Pete Graves and Hayley McQueen.

“The shortlist features some of the best and most outstanding talent in women's football today," said Jamie Carragher, reflecting on the shortlist. "There are some fantastic players on this list who are achieving so much in the sport.

"It is also great to see male football allies recognised as well as other individuals and organisations who are playing their part to grow women's football. It is going to be a fantastic event.”
