Heading into the offseason, the New York Giants were in desperate need of talent at the wide receiver position. And they addressed it — repeatedly.
But despite all of the Giants’ additions to the position, they still remain in need of a true outside threat.
As the 2023 NFL draft rapidly approaches, the Giants have been heavily linked to many of the receivers projected to go in the first round including Quentin Johnston, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Jordan Addison, and Zay Flowers.
Recently, ESPN released their list of the best team fits and fittingly enough, they pegged Addison for the Giants.
Let’s continue this late-Round 1 run on wide receivers with the Giants, who are in a position to take a swing on Addison. A highly productive receiver in college, Addison has the traits to get open and make himself available to quarterback Daniel Jones. His 2,468 receiving yards over the past two seasons — the first of which at Pitt before transferring — rank second in the FBS. He’s a fluid mover with the ability to change gears in the route stem and the burst and controlled footwork to separate.
Addison fits here given his inside/outside flex in Brian Daboll’s system. He can work out of the slot, and win on the boundary and press zone windows in the middle of the field. I see a combination of schemed throws for Jones with Addison’s ability to produce on multiple-breaking routes. Addison would also add to the deep matchup-based pass game in New York after the club already traded for tight end Darren Waller and added wide receiver Parris Campbell in free agency.
The Giants set out to add to the arsenal of weapons around Daniel Jones and they did just that by adding Parris Campbell (free agency) and Darren Waller (Trade) while retaining Isaiah Hodgins, Sterling Shepard, and Darius Slayton.
Selecting Addison would provide DJ with yet another weapon and the USC product certainly fits the mold of what the Giants are looking for in terms of a wide receiver given his ability to create separation.
Of course, it’s hard to determine if Addison will be there at pick No. 25 for Big Blue or if they would have to trade up to get him.
With Saquon Barkley, Darren Waller, an emerging Isaiah Hodgins, and a prospect like Addison, the Giants’ offense would be significantly improved going into next season.
