Jonnie Irwin's sister hails 'absolute fighter' brother amid terminal cancer battle

Jonnie Irwin's incredibly proud sister has hailed her brother as an 'absolute fighter', as he continues to put on a brave face through his terminal cancer fight.

Amanda admitted that she 'doesn't know how he does it' as the former A Place in the Sun presenter makes the most of every day he has left.

Jonnie, 49, was given his devastating diagnosis in August 2020, after being prompted to seek medical assistance when his vision became blurred driving back from filming. After tests, doctors told him he had lung cancer which had spread to his brain, giving him just six months left to live.

Almost three years on, Jonnie last night spoke to The Mirror at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards in London, as he was seen joking around with pals Jules Hudson, Sonali Shah and Nicki Chapman on the red carpet.

Jonnie later took to Instagram to share an amusing clip from the ceremony to his 179,000 followers online. He can be seen partying away with pal Jules, who begins undoing one of his shirt buttons - before Jonnie dives towards him, embracing and yelling: "Delicious!"

Captioning the clip, Jonnie wrote: "When @thejuleshudson unbuttons the ‘2nd button’ he’s simply irresistible..." while his sister Amanda quickly quipped: "How do you do it little bro! What an absolute fighter! #inspiration #proudsister."

And a number of other friends and fans were quick to comment on Jonnie's joy, as the ex-presenter made the most of a rare night out. One wrote: "You're absolutely amazing !!!!!! and the courage you’ve shown your children is amazing, what an inspiration you are," while another added: "So funny Jonnie ur still the best presenter by far xx." [sic]

A third went on: "Lovely to see you smiling and making others smile too!! x Bless you Jonnie x," while a fourth wrote: "Awwwww makes my heart melt ....just love these two ...keep fighting Jonnie."

Speaking at the event in London, Jonnie detailed how he is "taking every day as a gift and as it comes" while committed to living life to the full with three young sons, Rex, Rafa and Cormac, as well as wife Jess. He said: "Today is a good day.

"Yesterday I peeled myself out of bed and munched painkillers but so far so good today. I take every day as a gift and as it comes."
