Jonnie Irwin livid as he pulls himself 'from sick bed' to watch Spurs get thrashed by Newcastle

Jonnie Irwin was left frustrated on Sunday after he dragged himself from 'his sick bed,' to go and cheer on Tottenham Hotspur against Newcastle United, only to this side thrashed by their Premier League rivals.

Popular TV presenter Jonnie, star of A Place in the Sun, was met with a wealth of support and well wishes when he made his terminal cancer diagnosis public last year. He was given the devastating lung cancer prognosis back in August 2020, despite suffering no common signs or symptoms. The disease has since spread to his brain, with him now facing up to the heart-breaking realisation that he could have just months to live.

Jonnie lives on Tyneside with his family and, since his move here, has embraced all the region has to over, including its stunning coastal landscapes and fine restaurants.

However, he was firmly cheering against the Geordies on Sunday, when he headed to St James' and, unlike the majority of others at NUFC's famous ground, was hoping Spurs, rather than the Magpies, would get some much needed points to bring them a step closer to Champions League football next season.

However, the Londoners were left shell shocked, when Newcastle were 2-0 ahead after just six minutes, thanks to early goals from Jacob Murphy and Joelinton. And it was game, set and match by the 20 minute mark, after Joelinton got a second and Alexander Isak bagged a brace in quick succession.

Harry Kane pulled one back for Spurs in the 49th minute, before sub Callum Wilson made the final score 6-1.

Plenty of Spurs fans had left before half time after a miserable first 20 minutes and Jonnie very publicly shared his frustrations on Instagram.

Sharing a photo of the SJP pitch from his seat in the Spurs end, he wrote: "Pulled myself out my sickbed for this. It’s embarrassing!"

His followers were quick to respond, with one writing: "You should know better not to go against the toon at SJP" and a second replying: "You should have gone to Tynemouth market instead."
