Jonathan Taylor’s ankle injury considered ‘not overly serious’

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor suffered an ankle injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 24-17 loss against the Tennessee Titans, but early indications suggest it’s not a long-term injury.

The Colts reportedly fear the injury is a high-ankle sprain for Taylor, which would likely mean a timetable of a few weeks in terms of recovery.

According to Ian Rapoport, the injury is not considered to be a long-term issue. However, the Colts turn around on a short week to visit the Denver Broncos for a Thursday night matchup.

“They had tests right after the game [Sunday] night and while the belief is that his ankle injury is not overly serious, nothing major, nothing that will keep him off the field for a while, the fact that he has a short week means surely this is something we have to keep an eye on for the Indianapolis Colts,” Rapoport said Monday morning on NFL Network.

Even with the struggles early in the season, Taylor is still one of the most vital pieces to the offense. His presence alone creates a different defensive look and losing one of the most electric playmakers in the league—even for a game—won’t help an offense that desperately needs to find its groove.

Head coach Frank Reich is scheduled to meet with the media Monday at noon ET so we may get more of an update on Taylor’s status then.
