Jonathan Panzo 'close' to Rangers move with Michael Beale set to continue English shopping spree

Rangers could be set to add to the three signings that Michael Beale has already made this summer - with Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo reportedly in the pipeline for a permanent switch to Ibrox.

The young Englishman has already had quite an interesting career; starting off in Chelsea's youth system as a nine-year-old, Panzo made the brave decision to move to Monaco at just 18. He never properly featured for the French giants, and since then he has featured for Dijon, Cercle Brugge, Nottingham Forest and Coventry on loan last season, with the Sky Blues missing out on promotion at Wembley with a penalty loss to Luton.

With Forest surviving another season in the Premier League, it appears that Panzo could suffer some difficulty breaching a list of players that includes the likes of former Gers man Joe Worrall, Steve Cook, Moussa Niakhate and ex-Aberdeen boy Scott McKenna. And that may well see Panzo move to join Beale's English revolution at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

The report states that the Light Blues are close to securing a £2.5million deal for Panzo, with Rangers in discussions with Forest over a move. Beale knows Panzo from his Chelsea days, and has supposedly scouted the youngster multiple times whilst on loan at Coventry.

Auston Trusty is also on the list, but with Forest willing to sell Panzo, the clubs are now in advanced talks, which sees Beale continue his strong start to the window having already signed three stars from down south so far this season.

Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell and Dijon Sterling have already penned a transfer to Ibrox on free transfers, which adds to the Beale contingent that saw Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin join in the winter, with the duo being success stories so far.

But Panzo will be the first money signing of the summer, and given his age and experience, it would be considered a strong signing for the club should they be able to pull a deal off.
