Jonathan Kuminga believes the Golden State Warriors could “do something special this season.”
Kuminga’s comments came directly after Golden State won its fourth preseason game, defeating the Sacramento Kings 116-115. Six Warriors players scored in double digits. Rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis ended the game with a double-double in points and rebounds.
Kuminga is expected to have a big season. Entering his third year in the NBA, the 21-year-old is counted on to provide athleticism, rebounding and explosiveness off the bench. However, the former seventh pick believes Golden State’s strength is its depth and that is what will allow them to achieve at a high level in the coming months.
“Like coach says,” Kuminga said. “We’re way deeper than we were last year. There are so many talents on this team. And, within the talent, I feel like everybody’s together. I feel like we have something special. We could do something special with that group of guys that we’ve got.”
Kuminga ended the Oct. 18 contest against Sacramento with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists while also shooting 2-of-5 from 3-point range. The Warriors added reliable veterans to their roster this summer, giving the team more balance. As such, Steve Kerr has more rotation options available.

With Golden State’s championship-winning core still intact and some of the younger talents on the roster beginning to flourish, Warriors fans should feel confident about the season ahead. If the team’s preseason performances are anything to go by, Kuminga could be right: Something special might be brewing in the Bay Area.
