Jonathan Gannon is the new head coach for the Arizona Cardinals and he is busy putting his stamp on the team, setting the foundations for what he wants to do and forming his coaching staff.
Before he took the Cardinals’ job, it was reported that the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was defensive coordinator, was making an effort to keep him.
Apparently, it was a big push.
In an interview with NBC Sports’ Peter King, Gannon admitted that the Eagles offered him a lot of money to remain as their defensive coordinator.
“They came back and they were like, here’s a new offer,” he told King. “It’s gonna pay you more than being a head coach. That’s cool and I loved it there but I wanted to be a head coach.”
He also said he was exited to work with owner Michael Bidwill, general manager Monti Ossenfort and quarterback Kyler Murray.
Gannon valued the opportunity more than he valued the extra money, although he is certainly going to be well paid as a head coach for five years.
It is yet another reason Cardinals fans should be excited about the team’s new head coach.
