Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon preaches competition, which might explain one seemingly stubborn thing.
He refuses to say who his starters are.
Even after he rested everyone who likely would start in Week 1, he held firm.
“We’ll see,” when asked who his starters will be. “No starters named.”
The funny thing is that the way he handled players in the preseason, almost every starting position seems set.
The players who sat out Saturday’s preseason finale make it pretty clear.
Who will start at quarterback? Probably Colt McCoy.
At running back? James Conner.
Receiver? The top four are Hollywood Brown, Michael Wilson, Rondale Moore and Zach Pascal.
Tight end? Zach Ertz, Trey McBride and Geoff Swaim will all play a role.
The offensive line? Since minicamp, it has been D.J. Humphries, Elijah Wilkinson, Hjalte Froholdt, Will Hernandez and Paris Johnson.
The defensive line? L.J. Collier, Leki Fotu and Jonathan Ledbetter.
The linebackers? Zaven Collins, Kyzir White, Josh Woods and Dennis Gardeck.
The cornerbacks? Marco Wilson, Kei’Trel Clark and Antonio Hamilton in some rotation of three.
At safety, it will be Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson.
Any varying from this would be a surprise.
