Jonathan Gannon learning common Kyler Murray narratives are wrong

Prior to this offseason, the national perception of quarterback Kyler Murray has been off-balance at best. Whether it was about blowing up at head coach Kliff Kingsbury, appearing sulk on the sideline, reports he is a bad teammate who plays too many videogames and doesn’t study, or he is selfish, seemingly everything coming out about Murray was negative.

New head coach Jonathan Gannon has seen the exact opposite from Murray.

“He loves ball, he loves ball,” Gannon said, according to The Athletic’s Zak Keefer. “That was the other thing, the narrative on him — completely wrong. Completely wrong. Everything I’ve asked him to do, he’s done, more so.”

Murray has proven not to be hard to coach.

Gannon has pushed him, though.

“Have I challenged some of his actions that I didn’t love,” he said. “Yes, and I’ve talked to him about it.”

Murray still cannot practice but is expected to play this year.

Gannon has been thrilled with Murray’s engagement in meetings, the way he has attached his rehab, his support of his teammates and more. He is working hard, studying hard, being a good teammate and a good leader.

That’s not the selfish, lazy, hard-to-coach and bad leader and teammate Murray that supposedly was a problem.

When Murray gets back on the field, if he can add dynamic play in a new offense, we might just see even better days than his first three seasons.
