Lille striker Jonathan David admits he would be open to a potential move to the Premier League.

The Canadian international has enjoyed a meteoric rise since turning professional four years ago, leaving the part-time Ottawa Internationals for Gent before moving to France.

David has scored 41 goals in 108 games for Lille and proved crucial in their Ligue 1 title win in 2021, bagging 13 times as his club overcame the mighty challenge of Paris Saint-Germain.

Standard Sport understand there has been strong interest in the forward ever since his move to Europe, with Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leeds among the first to have cast keen eyes over his rapid-fire progress.

While it was Lille who won the race to sign him from Gent, Arsenal – who have scouted David since his time in Canada – and Liverpool have since been added to his list of admirers.

The move to France was sold to David he could get the chance to play Europa League and Champions League football. The club’s track record of developing young players and then selling them onto big clubs was also attractive.

It was agreed he needed a ‘middle step’ before making a big move, though David now appears to be ready for a new chapter.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old said: “The next step is always growing, having more ambition maybe a bigger club I think.

“Everyone wants to play for a massive club in their life. So if I had the chance to do it I would go for it, for sure.”
