Jonathan David makes major Premier League admission amid Man United and Arsenal transfer links

Jonathan David has been the recipient of transfer tank linking him with a potential Premier League move, with Arsenal and Chelsea particularly interested in acquiring his services. The Lille forward has scored nine goals in Ligue 1 this season from 19 appearances and appeared for Canada at the World Cup.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have been keen admirers of David over a number of transfer windows and their interest significantly ramped up over the summer before the Gunners opted for Gabriel Jesus and football.london understands Edu even held meetings with the player's agent back in December.

The 22-year-old struggled to prove Arteta and Edu wrong regarding their decisions to opt out of bringing him to the Premier League with his performances for Canada at the World Cup in Qatar.

Canada played with minimal fear in their opening game against Belgium but ultimately came up short, with Michy Batshuayi scoring the winner just before half time. Despite a thunderous start against Croatia where their talisman Alphonso Davies scored after just two minutes, their tournament exit was confirmed with Croatia coming back to win 4-1.

David started both fixtures and despite Canada playing on the front foot, the Lille star struggled to have any impact in front of goal with many of his efforts flying off target. Canada also lost their final group game against Morocco, who subsequently sealed their tournament progress, with John Herdman's side departing Qatar with zero points.

Although it was a disappointing campaign for David and Canada, his domestic displays show that he is an excellent forward with a knack for goal scoring and he has now opened up on any potential transfer moves and his thoughts on the Premier League.

"I am aware of nothing," David said when asked about his immediate future. "When I am at the World Cup I am just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment. What happens after I do not know, we will have to see.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there some day. What makes the difference at the highest level is the smallest differences.

"Any player who plays at the World Cup, no matter what the outcome, you become a better player, you learn from it, and it helps you grow."
