The lovechild of disgraced British politician, Jonathan Aitken, has tied the knot at a secret ceremony without inviting any of her father's family.
Petrina Khashoggi, 42, discovered she was the daughter of the former Cabinet minister when she was 18.
A year later, Aitken was convicted of perjury and jailed for seven months in 1999 after the collapse of his libel case in response to The Guardian's claims that he had been "dealing with Saudis".
But as she wed the "love of her life", Manhattan's Danny Baker Jr - Petra revealed that neither her dad nor her mum were invited.
She told MailOnline: "I would say that my relationship with both my mother and my father is distant."
"The truth is I've been very much on my own in this world. I had many advantages — but it was not the privileged life that people perceived."
Petra was raised by her mother, the 1970s beauty Soraya Khashoggi, and billionaire arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi who had raised her as his own.
But after the revelation that disgraced Tory, Aitken was her real dad, Petra said she 'struggled with trust and safety because there was a lot of inconsistency and confusion in my upbringing'.
She also admitted she hasn't seen any of her half-siblings since her grandmother's funeral in 2005.
Instead, her biological father sent her an email to congratulate her on her nuptials and she "exchanged texts" with her mother.
Petra opened up about how she struggled with depression following the death of her first father, her beloved dog Humphrey and then suffered "great disappointment" with her book.
She said: "I was in a serious depression for quite some time.
"A three-year relationship had just ended badly and a lot of things seemed to happen at once.
"I had a great disappointment with a book I'd been working on for five years, I was in a horrible job, my first father Adnan had died and things became very difficult among family members — that happens a lot — but he was the glue that held us together.
"When Humphrey also died, it felt like there wasn't much good in my life.
"I did start to question, 'What am I doing here?' It was a very dark time, completely overwhelming.
"I felt I was never going to find freedom and peace of mind.
"There were very few people who were there for me.
"I was surprised, particularly within my family, by the lack of emotional support.
"I always believe that family should stick together, love and support each other.
"The root of my sadness was to do with the broken relationships in my family.
"I shut down and became very isolated. The depression was relentless.
"It felt like the struggle was never going to end. I can understand why people choose to take their lives."
She also revealed that writer Salman Rushdie had been a great friend to her, whom she had planned to meet the week he was attacked on stage.
The discovery of Petra's real father only came when Aitken's twin daughters commented on their striking similarities to her, leading to a DNA test.
She met her now husband, the son of New York's most acclaimed plastic surgeon, after moving to the States 11 years ago.
Petra and Danny, 44, tied the knot at a quiet civil ceremony at Southampton Town Hall with a simple white linen beach dress and pink bouquet.
