Jon Stewart slams Trump’s claim that 'Nobody' Could Understand Bad Bunny Singing in Spanish

Jon Stewart is taking aim at President Donald Trump after Trump blasted Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show as “absolutely terrible” and claimed “nobody” could understand what the rapper was saying.

On The Daily Show on February 9, Stewart reacted to the backlash from MAGA supporters over Bad Bunny’s halftime performance. The Puerto Rican superstar, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, performed much of his set in Spanish, which sparked outrage from some conservatives online.

The criticism grew so loud that Trump supporters even pushed for a boycott, encouraging viewers to watch an alternative event organized by Turning Point USA. That show featured Kid Rock as the headliner.

Despite keeping most of his performance in Spanish, Bad Bunny made sure to include a message that was hard to miss. Above the stage, a marquee read, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” At the end of the performance, he also said “God bless America,” then listed countries across North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean. As he did, he revealed the slogan “Together we are America” on a football he was holding.

After watching the performance from his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump posted a long rant about the show on Truth Social.

“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence,” Trump wrote. He then complained about Bad Bunny performing in Spanish and criticized the choreography.

“Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History!”

Trump wrapped up the post by taking a shot at the media and even tossed in a complaint about the NFL.

“There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD — And, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Stewart read part of Trump’s message aloud on his show, then stopped to mock Trump’s claim that “nobody” understands Bad Bunny.

“Nobody?” Stewart said, laughing. “I love that he thinks Bad Bunny is the one guy in the world that’s fluent in Spanish.” Stewart then did an impression of Trump, joking that Spanish is somehow rare or outdated.

Making an impression of the president, Stewart said, “Nobody understands. It’s a dead language.” He also took a jab at conservatives for suddenly acting like Bad Bunny’s performance was divisive, despite the fact Puerto Rico is part of the United States.

“You know, the right has a lot of balls complaining that Bad Bunny didn’t do enough to unify this country when you only found out a few days ago that Puerto Rico is a part of it.”

Bad Bunny’s halftime show, which included guest appearances from Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Cardi B, and Pedro Pascal, made history as the first halftime performance done entirely in Spanish.

The performance also reportedly set a new viewership record, pulling in around 135.4 million viewers. That number beat the previous record held by Kendrick Lamar, whose 2025 halftime show drew 133.5 million viewers.

Bad Bunny performed several of his biggest hits, including Tití Me Preguntó, Yo Perreo Sola, Safaera, and El Apagón. During the guest appearances, Gaga performed a salsa style version of Die With a Smile, and Ricky Martin joined in on Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii.
