Jon Rahm will make his long-awaited debut in the DP World Tour Hero Dubai Desert Classic which is set to take place in January 2025.
Jon Rahm Set To Make Dubai Desert Classic Debut In January 2025
The Spanish golf star will compete at the tournament for the first time as he is unable to start the PGA Tour season due to a suspension.
It will be hosted at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai and Rahm will be playing his golf there instead of the PGA tournaments – The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open.
Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood will also be present at the tournament on January 16th-19th, with the former being the current champion.
Gaining someone like Jon Rahm is a huge pull for the DP series event but it will also give the Spaniard a chance to win Official World Golf Ranking and Ryder Cup points.
Rahm spoke about the chance to play at the event for the first time and pointed out his recent success when playing golf in Dubai
He said: “This is an event that I have heard a lot about and I am looking forward to making my Hero Dubai Desert Classic debut in January.
“I have had a lot of success in Dubai in the past so it’s a place that holds a lot of good memories for me, and it will be great to get back there.”
Although this will be Rahm’s first time playing at this specific tournament, Rahm has won the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai three times – while also picking up the Race To Dubai title in 2019.
Which may be why the Spanish golf star is one of the favourites to win a host of tournaments this year like The Masters and US Open on UK betting sites.
Overall, Rahm has won 10 DP World Tours and kept a hold of his membership after playing in at least four events over the course of a year.
His current situation is sticky, as the Spaniard is still waiting for an outcome from his appeal over fines and a suspension for joining LIV Golf.
However, he is still allowed to compete in DP World Tour events and his season starts at the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club.
Simon Corkill, Executive Director for Dubai Desert Classic, spoke about the inclusion of Rahm and how it will help boost the profile of the tournament.
He said: “The confirmation that Jon Rahm will make his debut on the Majlis Course in January is certainly continuation of that and we’re delighted to announce his inclusion in what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting fields in the event’s history.
“Rahm’s record speaks for itself, and his presence alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and other European Ryder Cup stars offers golf fans an unparalleled opportunity to witness the best in the world competing at Emirates Golf Club.”
