Jon Lind, a legendary songwriter and music executive, has died aged 72 following a two-year struggle with cancer.
He died on Saturday, his attorney Jeremy Rosen confirmed to Variety.
Since his career began in the 1960s as a folk singer, he has worked with a number of huge names in the industry - from Madonna to Earth, Wind and Fire.
He first garnered success by writing the band's hit 1979 single Boogie Wonderland and continued to work as a songwriter through the 80s and 90s.
During that time, Lind wrote Madonna's Crazy For You and Vanessa Williams' 1991 hit Save The Best For Last.
Later on, he continued his career as a music executive at Hollywood Records and aided the careers of Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers announced his death in a statement shared by Billboard, in which they paid tribute to the musician.
They wrote: "The songwriting community lost a great songwriter and a beautiful soul in Jon Lind, who leaves a legacy of iconic songs both as a songwriter and supremely talented A&R man.
"The ASCAP family mourns his loss but his humor, his music and his wonderfully generous spirit live in our hearts."
