An operation conducted by American and Iraqi forces resulted in the successful elimination of 15 members of the Islamic State group in western Iraq. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation, stating that on Thursday, Aug. 29, U.S. and Iraqi forces engaged and neutralized the ISIS operatives.
According to CENTCOM, the ISIS members were found to be armed with a significant arsenal, including weapons, grenades, and explosive 'suicide' belts. Despite the intensity of the operation, no civilian casualties were reported.
Highlighting the ongoing threat posed by ISIS, CENTCOM emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with coalition and Iraqi partners to combat terrorism in the region. The commitment to aggressively pursuing and defeating terrorist elements was reiterated by the U.S. military.
This recent operation follows a previous successful strike by U.S. forces in Syria, where a senior leader of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Horas al-Din, Abu Abdul Makki, was eliminated. Makki, responsible for orchestrating terrorist activities from Syria, was targeted in a kinetic strike.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, the CENTCOM commander, reaffirmed the dedication to eradicating terrorist threats that jeopardize the safety of the United States, its allies, and regional stability. The enduring mission to defeat terrorism and safeguard the interests of the U.S. and its partners remains a top priority for CENTCOM.
