'Joining the GOAT' - Cristiano Ronaldo fans troll Lionel Messi after PSG transfer decision

Cristiano Ronaldo fans reckon Lionel Messi is about to join the Manchester United favourite in Saudi Arabia next season after his Paris Saint-Germain departure was formalised.

Messi won the World Cup with Argentina this winter, but his time with PSG will, seemingly, end on a sour note as speculation over what happens next gathers pace. Barcelona and MLS franchise Inter Miami - which is part owned by David Beckham - are thought to be interested in him.

However, as things stand, a jaw-dropping offer from Al-Hilal appears to be the best bet and that would, of course, see Messi renew his rivalry with Ronaldo.

Regarded as two of the best, if not the greatest, players in history, Ronaldo and Messi have got their hands on 12 Ballon d'Or awards between them throughout their record-breaking careers - in addition to further individual and countless team honours. Despite being in their twilight years, they continue to boast massive followings on social media and beyond, while each proclaims their hero to be the GOAT.

Ronaldo signed for Al-Nassr from United mid-season and narrowly missed out on winning the Pro League - at the first attempt - but it looks as though future Saudi title races could be set for a dramatic subplot on the proviso Messi does pitch up in the country. His departure after two years with PSG has been rubber-stamped.

In a short statement before his side's Ligue 1 finale on Saturday night, PSG manager Christophe Galtier said: "I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football, and it will be Leo's last match at the Parc des Princes against Clermont."

True to form, Ronaldo fans are not so sure Messi can be labelled as the greatest of all-time. Here are a selection of comments about him as taken from Twitter;
