Johnny Sexton ready to cheer on England 'for the first time' in pivotal Paris clash

Johnny Sexton says Ireland will be cheering for England for the first time tonight - with the Old Enemy having the chance to hand the men in green a first Six Nations title since 2018.

They have already bagged their first Triple Crown victory in four years, and their first on home soil since 2004, after seeing off Scotland 26-5 at the Aviva Stadium this evening.

Now all eyes are on the Stade de France, where France can win their first Grand Slam since 2010. But they have to beat Eddie Jones' England to achieve their goal.

"We got five points, which puts pressure on France and for the first time we’re cheering on England tonight," beamed skipper Sexton.

"We’re absolutely delighted, so happy for everyone today, it was an incredible atmosphere from start to finish and got us over the line for what may be an important point in this championship."

Ireland are now on 21 points, after winning four of their five games and picking up five bonus points, and they currently lead France by three points.

"We’re happy enough, it’s not perfect by any means," Sexton admitted. "We did some things very well, but not as well as we would have wanted in a final.

"We were searching for that x-factor performance. We did just enough. We did what exactly what we wanted."

Sexton believes this Six Nations has been another stepping stone to where Ireland want to go as they look forward to their three-Test tour of New Zealand in July.

"I think so, that’s the most important thing, we keep going forward," said the 36-year-old.

"From day one under Andy Farrell we’ve been getting better and better.

"Last year, Andy Farrell was getting written off, I was getting written off, we were getting written off. We know you’re not always that far from being slated off."
