Johnny Depp donates £670,000 to charity - including one with ties to ex Amber Heard

Johnny Depp has donated almost £670,000 to children's charities across the globe - one of which is associated with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The actor, 59, gave the money to Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, the Footprint Coalition and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

The large sum was raised through the sale of NFTs (non-fungible tokens).

Amber, 36, has ties with the LA's Children's Hospital.

During the six-week blockbuster trial it emerged the actress had failed to donate her $7million divorce pay out to charity, saying her expensive libel battle with ex Johnny was to blame.

Back in 2016, Amber had pledged to split the settlement between the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union.

On Wednesday, Depp's community called Never Fear Truth announced they had made a considerable donation to the four charities on their Twitter page.

NFTs are described as 'a digital asset that represents real-world objects like art, music, in-game items and videos bought and sold online, frequently with cryptocurrency'.

It said the group was able to raise 'nearly $800,000 in total donations' through a sale.

They added: "We are grateful and very thankful to the Never Fear Truth community for this tremendous accomplishment - making this project one of the most philanthropic NFT sales to date – and we are excited to build on this success and making an even greater impact going forward."

Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation then thanked the NFT community for their donation.

They wrote: "Thank you so much for your generosity in helping support @PCHFWA and WA sick kids...

"These funds will make a significant impact in helping keep @PerthChildrens world-class for our children and families."

This comes after Depp's highly publicised six-week trial where he sued his ex-wife Amber $50million over a 2018 opinion-piece she had written for the Washington Post that alleged she was a victim of domestic abuse, which his lawyers said falsely accused him of being an abuser.

Heard then countersued Depp for $100million, claiming his lawyer Adam Waldman made defamatory statements by calling her claims a 'hoax'.

Following the six-week trial, Depp won and was awarded $15million, which was $10million in compensation and $5million in punitive damages.

Amber currently owes Depp more than $8million in damages.

However, the Aquaman star is reportedly unable to pay the $8.35 million balance in damages, but must post $10.35 million as a bond with the court while the appeal is pending.

Heard, meanwhile, won one of her three countersuit claims and was awarded $2million in compensatory damages.

Rumours have emerged of Depp returning to Pirates of the Caribbean (PA)

She is now bidding to overturn the verdict.

Her legal team has filed a 43-page motion with the court in Virginia, arguing the verdict was flawed and the validity of the jury which heard the case.

Meanwhile Johnny is currently preparing to film his first movie in two years.

The actor is set portray King Louie XV and the film will be directed by French filmmaker Maiwenn Le Besco.

This comes as rumours have emerged that Depp could be making a return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

He was the major lead in five of the movies and last appeared in Dead Men Tell No Tales which was released in 2017.
