Chelsea icon John Terry has endorsed the contract extension of Thiago Silva with a short, but heartfelt, message on social media. The 38-year-old defender was set to leave the Blues at the end of the season once his previous deal expired but, having continued to impress, he has been rewarded for his efforts.
Silva penned a one-year extension which keeps him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2024. He's featured 19 times for Chelsea in the Premier League this term, helping the club keep six clean sheets.
The Brazil international has been integral to the Blues' success since arriving in 2020 under Frank Lampard, winning the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. Despite his age, Silva continues to prove his doubters wrong; he's begun to establish a formidable partnership with Benoit Badiashile, who's blossomed under his stewardship.

The Brazilian is having as much of an impact off the pitch as he is on it and Terry is delighted to see Silva pick up from where he left off. With a blue heart, a pen and a clapping emoji, the former Chelsea captain tweeted: "Things you love to see."
Ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, Silva insisted that his decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Chelsea was correct despite those that said otherwise and doubted him. As quoted by TribalFootball, he said: "It was a tough time when I left PSG.
"Although I was sure my qualities were intact, I know that others doubted me and whether the decision to switch to Chelsea was the right one. It culminated in us winning the Champions League in 2021. It was the perfect way to disprove people who doubted."
Silva added that he's eager to continue proving people wrong. He said: "I can tell you that what is important is to continue playing at a high level and help the team to achieve the best possible results.
"For sure, there will be a time when we need to talk, it could be before the World Cup or after the World Cup because I need to know whether I will have a new contract with Chelsea for my family arrangements.
"If I don’t have a new contract, I will have to decide what to do. For my family, it's an important decision. We will see what happens."
