John Terry sends Luis Diaz message following Chelsea's FA Cup final defeat against Liverpool

Chelsea legend John Terry has labelled Liverpool's Luis Diaz as "fantastic" following the Blues' heart-breaking defeat in the FA Cup final.

It's the second time this season that Chelsea have lost on penalties against Liverpool at Wembley, after suffering the same fate in the Carabao Cup final earlier this season. Mason Mount and Cesar Azpilicueta both missed their penalties in the shoot-out as Kostas Tsimikas won it for the Reds meaning Thomas Tuchel's side end the season without any silverware.

Diaz impressed throughout the match for the opposition and struck the outside of the post in the second half as the Blues were able to keep the score level throughout 120 minutes of play. The defeat means that Chelsea have now lost their last three consecutive FA Cup finals.

Diaz joined the Reds in January and was one of the standout performers back in the Carabao Cup final, causing the Chelsea defence issues with his pace and skill. Saturday was no different as the Colombia international's direct play saw him create a number of chances against Edouard Mendy, who did well to stop Liverpool from taking the lead.

Terry recognised the performance of Diaz when speaking after the FA Cup final, sending a message to the Liverpool attacker on an Instagram post shared by the Colombian: "Absolutely devastated, but you are a fantastic player my friend."

The former Blues captain has praised Diaz in the past, posting about the 25-year-old on Twitter back in March whilst the Reds were in action against West Ham United, saying: "Diaz is a player."

Diaz was linked with a move to Tottenham before Liverpool swooped in a completed a deal for the former Porto forward before the transfer deadline in January. Chelsea could be in the market for a similar player this summer as Tuchel is expected to be backed heavily in the transfer window ahead of next season.
