John McGinn one word Scotland vs Spain verdict after stunning Hampden win for Steve Clarke's men

John McGinn has offered a simple one word response to Scotland's stunning win over Spain.

The Dark Blues midfielder was once again heavily involved as Steve Clarke's men shocked the visitors to pick up a huge 2-0 win in front of a packed Hampden Park. Scott McTominay - who scored twice from the bench against Cyprus - was handed a start under the lights and he repaid the faith of his manager with two big goals once again.

The full-time scenes at Hampden were incredible with the Tartan Army in full voice throughout the 90 minutes as the national team recorded a famous win. It leaves them on two wins from two and at the top of the section ahead of the June double-header with Norway and Georgia - who played out a 1-1 draw last night.

Aston Villa star McGinn, who grabbed the first goal of the Euro 2024 qualifying in Saturday's win over Cyprus summed up the whole experience in Mount Florida last night by posting an image of himself celebrating on Twitter with the caption: "Special." alongside a Scotland flag.

Speaking after the win, boss Clarke told Viaplay Sports: "I'm delighted with the team's performance, I thought the players were outstanding from the first minute to last minute. Five changes but the dynamics, the enthusiasm and the quality the team didn't change which is great for us. It feels like a step forward in what we are trying to do as a nation and as a team.

"But it's only six points - you don't qualify with six points, which is what I said to the team after. When we had the ball we looked a threat, we didn't have an awful lot of possession but what we had we used very well and that was always going to be important.

"The defensive shape is good, the distance between the units is really good which stops a large part of Spain's game - but the credit goes to the players on the pitch, they're the guys who have to do the hard yards.

"Speaking to a few after the game, they have said they're physically tired and mentally tired - thinking all the time about where the Spanish players are going to be.

"It was competitive for both teams. That's what you expect with the first seed against the second seed in the group, you always expect a big game and a big win, but there's teams still to go. One bad game can always set you back so we will stay focused and grounded.

"That's what we are trying to build. I said to the players, 'look - that's what it means to the country if you can produce a big result against one of the top teams in Europe - people will speak about you in years to come."
