After finalizing their initial 53-player roster at the Tuesday deadline, there are still question marks surrounding one position for the San Francisco 49ers.
With both Jake Moody and Zane Gonzalez suffering injuries in the preseason, the 49ers kicking position is something to monitor with under two weeks to go until the opening week of the season.
Buy 49ers TicketsAfter adding Gonzalez to the season-ending injured reserve and not adding a kicker on Tuesday or Wednesday, John Lynch provided a positive update in regards to Moody’s injury. According to the 49ers general manager, Moody is tracking well to be ready for week one against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Moody was drafted by the 49ers in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft out of Michigan. The former All-American kicker had an up-and-down preseason campaign that included missed field goals and PATs along with a game-winning kick to seal the 49ers’ only win in the preseason.
Moody suffered a strained quad at practice late in San Francisco’s training camp.
Moody will now have a little over a week to continue recovering from his injury before the 49ers head to Pittsburgh for the season opener.
