John Lundstram has accused Union Saint Gilloise of a lack of respect after their wild celebrations following their Champions League third qualifying round first leg win in Belgium as the Light Blues midfielder looks to make them pay in Tuesday’s Ibrox return.
And he reckons the Jupiler Pro League side don’t know what awaits them at the rocking Govan ground in their first away European tie for almost 60 years. Lundstram knows Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men let themselves down in the first leg as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat after a limp performance.
They must now do something the club has never achieved in its history by overturning a two-goal first leg deficit. But former Sheffield United man Lundstram says they can use the post match party atmosphere in Leuven to help fire them up.
Asked if they could use the full time antics of the Belgian players as motivation, Lundstram said: "You can use whatever motivation you need for this game. Everyone is different. But we have certainly all seen it, we certainly all know it is there and is a touch disrespectful, if you want to say. Listen, we are ready and whatever motivation you need, you can use what you like. We just need to turn up and we will.”
And the Scouser reckons Karel Geraerts’ men don’t know what they’re walking into at Ibrox. And when asked if he felt the Belgians already believe the job is done, he said: “A wee bit, you could say that, yeah. They are coming to a really tough place. I am not sure they have really taken that on board yet, where they are coming to and what a big venue it is. We are just raring to go, we can’t wait to get out there and put right where we disappointed ourselves last week.”
