John Lineker has been stripped of the ONE Championship bantamweight title after missing weight Thursday.
Lineker lost the promotion’s 145-pound title on the scale after he weighed in at 145.5 on his first attempt and 145.75 on his second try ahead of his ONE on Prime Video 3 headliner vs. Fabricio Andrade, who did make weight.
The weigh-in results were reported by the South China Morning Post.
The fight will go on as scheduled, with Lineker being fined 20 percent of his purse and Andrade still eligible to become the new ONE bantamweight champion if he’s victorious.
It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Lineker, who won the bantamweight title this past March when he knocked out longtime champ Bibiano Fernandes.
Lineker, a seven-year veteran of the UFC, is 4-0 since making his ONE Championship debut in October 2019. Three of his victories have come by knockout/TKO.
Andrade, 25, is 8-2 as a professional and rides a seven-fight winning streak heading into ONE on Prime Video 3, which takes place Friday (Saturday locally) in Kuala Lumpur and streams on Amazon Prime Video.
