There is a familiar face and a familiar voice in the new John Lewis advert, after Geordie actress Vicky Elliott landed a starring role in the department store's Christmas campaign.
Every year, despite growing competition as more and more shops debut their own festive ads, John Lewis is the one everyone waits for. And, after the likes of The Snowman, The Bear and the Hare and The Man on the Moon have tugged on heartstrings over the years, this year's John Lewis advert, The Beginner, made its debut on Thursday morning.
The sweet ad is very different to past ones from the famous store and focuses on the story of a man who tries desperately hard to be good at skateboarding, as he and his wife prepare to welcome a foster child to their home. And it's Vicky who plays his wife, as the couple share a number of touching scenes.

Vicky was also on screen in worldwide hit Ted Lasso and in the latest series of ITV crime drama The Bay.
She has also had brief parts in Emmerdale, Holby City and Doctors and was one of the cast of X Factor musical I Can't Sing and at the world famous Globe theatre in A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as starring in the acclaimed The Lost Disc at the Soho Theatre.
At the time of writing, Vicky hadn't posted on Instagram about her new role, but she did share a post on her story from someone who'd spotted her in the advert.
