John Kennedy says Celtic have Ange 'tied to a chair' as exit to Leeds United speculation intensifies

John Kennedy joked Ange Postecoglou had been tied to a chair at his Lennoxtown office as speculation over a move to Leeds United intensified with the Celtic assistant taking over the Aussie’s press conference duties.

Postecoglou took training head of the Scottish Cup fifth-round clash with St Mirren but was missing as Kennedy stepped in to face the media. Postecoglou’s name has been linked with the position at Elland Road following the sacking of Jesse Marsch in midweek.

And fans would have feared the worst when he ducked out of the media conference as Kennedy faced questions from the assembled press. Kennedy admitted the success the former Socceroos gaffer has brought to Parkhead makes it inevitable that he will be linked with a move to a bigger league but said he was focused on the job in hand. On Postecoglou’s absence, Kennedy said: “We’ve tied him to the chair upstairs and got a couple of security at his door. There’s always speculation. Credit to the manager in terms of the job he’s done here. It’s a bit like players when they come and do well they get linked to other clubs.

“The manager has shown himself his ability as a manager and when you do that and you have success you attract attention and that’s what’s happened but ultimately it’s a lot of speculation. There is a lot of noise. I know first hand the way he works. He’s really focused on his job here. He loves being here and is in the middle of building something very special and his mind is firmly focused on being at Celtic and doing the best he can.”
