The motorsport community has come together to pay tribute to 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force as the 76-year-old officially announced his retirement on Thursday.
The driver and owner of John Force Racing confirmed his retirement from racing as he continues to be under the care of doctors for a traumatic brain injury sustained in a horrific crash during the 2024 Virginia Nationals at Richmond.
Force is one of the most decorated drivers in the history of NHRA with 16 championship titles in the Funny Car category and 157 wins. His team, John Force Racing, has accumulated 23 championship titles.
"The greatest driver in NHRA history John Force officially announced his retirement from drag racing today. Pretty safe to say that nobody will ever beat his 16 #NHRA world championships. [Goat emoji]," Mark J. Rebilas wrote.
"The John Force I want to remember is when he drove for Ford Motorsports & FORD Racing! This is when John Force was an unstoppable force in all motorsports. Just wish he had the opportunity to retire with FORD Racing. Congratulations on retirement John Force," Cage Dalton posted.
"I worked for the rival team my entire NHRA career but so honored to be in the presence of the GOAT John Force while I was in the sport," Leah Moyer commented. "A true legend on and off the track."

PEAK Auto, a partner of John Force Racing, posted: "Thank you, John Force, for every run, win, and moment you’ve given this sport and the PEAK family. Your legacy on and off the track as a driver, owner, and ambassador defines greatness. Enjoy retirement—you’ve earned it. Proud to have you as a #PEAKSquad leader."
Darrell Gwynn also wrote: "Congratulations to the man himself, the GOAT John Force @JFR_Racing I am so glad I got to witness your career from the beginning and all your accomplishments. What an unbelievable career you had. I love you, man."
"No matter what sport you think of, there’s always one person who carries the torch and is the face for that certain league or series," Kaleb Vestal commented. "John Force not only excelled on the track but also represented the NHRA and Drag Racing off the track. To me, he will always be the face of NHRA."
