John Barrowman cancels 2023 tour after slow ticket sales amid 'hardest' few years' ever

John Barrowman has announced that his upcoming UK tour has been cancelled, with him saying that he is "devastated" to no longer be touring his show next year.

The actor, 55 - known for roles in TV shows like Doctor Who and Arrow - had been due to embark on a tour next year, following the release of his album Centre Stage.

The album was released last month and features some of his "personal favourites" from musical theatre, with John having performed in the West End and on Broadway himself.

He has just announced that his upcoming UK tour will no longer go ahead. He said there's been "slow" ticket sales in some areas and that increased costs have made it unviable.

John shared the news on Instagram this afternoon. He wrote in a statement on the platform earlier: "It is with huge regret that we have decided to cancel the UK tour.

"Unfortunately, tickets sales in certain parts of the UK have been slow, and with the increased costs of touring it is no longer economically viable to continue."

John continued in the statement that was issued this afternoon: "This is a decision that has not been taken lightly, and I know many of my fans will be very upset, as am I."

The actor - whose stage credits include roles in shows like Sunset Boulevard and Chicago - added: "Personally I am devastated and like many people I have found the last years extremely difficult, possibly the hardest few years of my life."

"When it gets tough it is sometimes better to stop and re-evaluate and that is exactly what I am going to do. I am so sorry to all my fans," he concluded the post.

His post has attracted more than 18,000 likes on the platform. Some of his followers took to the comments section to share disappointment over the news.

One wrote: "Very sad you've had to cancel the tour, but high praise to you for being so honest about the reason & not stringing people along with an excuse. I hope that the tour can be put on again in the near future".

Another said: "It takes a lot of strength to walk away from something you love to do. Your fans will understand and you will bounce back with something new and wonderful."

"I’m gutted that the tour has been cancelled but can completely understand why. You need to do what’s right for you. Take care of yourself," a third penned.
