One of the biggest surprises of the first round of the 2023 NFL draft was the fact that former Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. wasn’t selected. Many pundits had Porter targeted to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round at pick No. 17.
But Porter didn’t get taken in the first round, and the cameras caught him and his dad, Steelers legend Joey Porter Sr., talking about it. Porter Sr. and his son have a pep talk to keep him motivated and to remind him about where he should have been taken.
Porter was one of three prospects invited to the draft in Kansas City who were not chosen on the first day. Porter didn’t stay for the second day but ended up being the first pick on Friday and landed with the Steelers.
With Porter as pick No. 32, he was in essence a first-round choice. If this makes him play a little harder, so be it.
