Joelinton's FIFA 22 rise proves Eddie Howe was right as six Newcastle stars receive upgrades

EA Sports has given the Newcastle United squad a huge upgrade on FIFA 22, with six players receiving significant boosts.

The Magpies are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, winning four of their last five games, including crucial victories against Leeds, Everton and Brentford. Eddie Howe's side currently sit top of the form table in the Premier League, and have since moved out of the relegation zone up to 14th place, four points above Burnley in 18th.

The likes of Joelinton, Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey have been influential in turning Newcastle's form around, with new signings Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood all adding quality to the squad. Newcastle's squad rating on FIFA 22 at the start of the game cycle was 76 overall, but over the course of the season, the ratings have slowly increased, with the latest update seeing six players receive upgrades, and most of them are significant too.

The latest FIFA 22 squad update was released on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, with the squad update now available to download on all platforms including PC, Xbox and PlayStation.

So, which Newcastle players have been upgraded in the latest update? Let's take a look.

Newcastle FIFA 22 squad update

Joelinton

Since moving back into a central midfield position under Howe, the Brazilian has been one of Newcastle's best and most consistent players in the team.

Joelinton has received a significant boost in FIFA 22 to accurately represent his brilliant performances in midfield, with the 25-year-old seeing upgrades to his Short Passing (76-77), Heading Accuracy (75-76), Reactions (74-75), Stamina (75-76) and Marking (37-40).

Joe Willock

Willock's form has improved in recent weeks, similar to how he picked up form for the Magpies at the back end of last season, with the 22-year-old scoring crucial goals against West Ham and Brentford.

Willock looks more comfortable playing alongside Shelvey and Joelinton in a three-man midfield, and the former Arsenal player has received upgrades as a reward for his recent performances.

The 22-year-old has received upgrades in his Acceleration (74-75), Agility (74-76), Vision (69-71), Marking (60-61) and Composure (70-71).

Willock's potential overall rating has increased from 83 to 84 and his Attacking Work Rate has been changed from Medium to High, given his attacking threat from midfield and efforts to support the front line.

Jonjo Shelvey

Shelvey joins Willock and Joelinton in receiving upgrades in the latest FIFA 22 squad update, with 30-year-old being given boosts to his Long Passing (83-84), Acceleration (48-50) and Sprint Speed (49-51).

Despite Newcastle signing former Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, Shelvey has retained his place in Howe's starting line-up due to his impressive performances at the heart of the Magpies' play style.

Fabian Schar

The Swiss centre-back has been brilliant at the back for Newcastle recently, helped by the arrival of Dan Burn from Brighton, with Schar being significantly upgraded in the latest FIFA 22 squad update.

The 30-year-old defender has received boosts to his Short Passing (72-74), Long Passing (73-74), Acceleration (52-54), Stamina (68-70), Aggression (72-73), Marking (73-75) and Composure (71-73).

EA Sports also awarded Schar with upgrades to his overall rating and potential rating, with the Switzerland international's overall increasing from 75 to 76, along with his potential rating.

Chris Wood

The New Zealand international may still be waiting for his first goal as a Newcastle player since signing for the club in January, but Wood's presence in attack has allowed Ryan Fraser, Allan Saint-Maximin, Willock and Joelinton more space to attack and create chances.

The 30-year-old striker has received minimal boosts to his physical attributes with his Jumping increasing from 79 to 80, and his Strength being upgraded from 85 to 86.

Ryan Fraser

The Scottish winger has proved to be a valuable member of the squad under Eddie Howe, working tirelessly in both attack and defence from the right-wing.

Fraser has received just a single upgrade in the latest FIFA 22 squad update, with the 28-year-old's Standing Tackle attribute increasing from 55 to 56, but should his form continue he could likely receive further boosts before the end of the season.

Other players affected by the most recent FIFA 22 squad update are Jamaal Lascelles, Dwight Gayle, Mark Gillespie and Santiago Munoz.
