Joelinton keeps his calm after Pedro Porro's frustration amid Alexander Isak's question for Joe Willock

Newcastle United took a step towards a top-four finish with a superb victory over Tottenham at St James' Park. Eddie Howe's side ran out 6-1 winners in front of a shell-shocked capacity crowd.

Two goals apiece from Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak plus strikes from Joelinton and Callum Wilson put United back up to third and more importantly six points ahead of Tottenham.

Here are some moments you might have missed.

Alexander Isak's question for Joe Willock after superb assist

Joe Willock's pass for Alexander Isak's first goal may be the best pass of a ball the former Arsenal man will ever execute - with the outside of his foot, his first-time assist, was expertly finished home by Isak. The Swedish international ran across the box towards to the Milburn Stand to meet Joe Willock.

After a quick slide on the knees, Isak got to his feet and into the face of Willock asking 'what was that?'' - we assume he was just as blown away by Willock's pass as the rest of us!

Cheers for Dan Burn

If we rewind just a few seconds before Joe Willock' superb assist, we see Dejan Kulusevski attempting to get the better of Dan Burn down Newcastle's left. He cuts inside but Burn gets a tackle in and clears it to Bruno who then passes it to Wilock to do the rest.

But it's that tackle by Burn that was cheered by those on the terraces as if it was Newcastle's soon-to-be fourth goal of the afternoon. And just minutes later - after United hit their fourth and fifth - the cheers came again as Burn stopped Kulusevski from advancing.

Every challenge, block, and header won was applauded by the Toon crowd who appreciated the 100% commitment from the players.

Burn impressed - topping the Toon charts for tackles (4) and clearances (3) made. Going forward he impressed too with 81 touches (3) and 40 accurate passes made out of 50. It was an important performance for Burn with calls for him to be replaced by Dan Burn coming from some.

Eddie Howe's instructions for Kieran Trippier

Alexander Isak's face said it all as he put Newcastle five up but as the majority of the Newcastle team raced towards their teammate at The Leazes End, captain Kieran Trippier headed over to the dugout. Toon boss Eddie Howe began issuing instructions with Trippier listening intently.

It's another nod to the levels that Howe demands from his side even when things are going so well. Speaking about the importance of not stepping off, Howe said: “The unpredictable nature of the game is one of the beauties of football, but what really pleased me is that we kept our high standards throughout the game

"Although we didn’t score as frequently after that period, we never lost our rhythm. “That’s how I want us to be in terms of intensity. We can tick that one off. In terms of our willingness to win the ball, and our desire to score, it was very good. The linking of play and movement of the team was at the very highest level.”

Joelinton keeps his calm after Pedro Porro's frustration

Newcastle United were doing as they pleased towards the end of the first half, and Spurs were just lost. With Joelinton already having one goal to his name, the Brazilian was having a superb first 45 as he ran rings around the opposition.

The Toon no.7 received the ball on the touchline by the dugouts and executed a cheeky little Cruyff turn past Pedro Porro - although the Spanish international wasn't allowing him past. The defender wiped Joelinton out and sent him tumbling to the floor.

Porro stood over Joelinton and muttered something before quickly backtracking and holding out a hand out in apology. It was a clear act of frustration from the Spurs defender - and thankfully, Joelinton didn't rise to the bait. He got back to his feet and on with the game.

It was a sign of maturity from Joelinton when Spurs' game plan may have resorted to simply kicking Newcastle.

A show of support for Anthony Gordon

Not that it was ever in doubt but the Geordie faithful have Anthony Gordon's back. After the much-publicized reaction from Gordon after being subbed against Brentford, questions were raised by some about his attitude.

Eddie Howe addressed the situation and moved on but this was the first home game since that incident and it felt quite an important moment as Gordon ran onto the pitch to chants of 'Oh Anthony Gordon,' before moments later running over to take a corner in the Strawberry Corner to huge applause.
