Joelinton issues rallying cry after Wembley defeat and has message for Newcastle United fans

Joelinton has spoken of the "sadness" within the Newcastle United camp after losing to Manchester United at Wembley - but insists "tomorrow is another day".

The Brazilian midfield enforcer has rallied the troops and ordered them to focus on delivering a European spot with Champions League qualification for only the fourth time in the club's history still possible. Joelinton watched a late header get patted down by David De Gea but accepted Man United were worthy winners.

Joelinton told Chronicle Live: "It is disappointing, we wanted to win but it wasn't possible. Man United have a really good team and played really well on the day.

"It's sad today but tomorrow is another day. This is how tough football can be. We have to pick ourselves up, today we're sad but tomorrow is another day, we put our heads up and keep going.

"There are a lot of Premier League games to play and we're in a good position. We want to get back to winning ways."

Two defensive lapses in the space of six minutes cost Newcastle dear on the day as Casimero and Marcus Rashford cashed in at Wembley to put Man United in control. Looking back on the game, Joelinton said: "We started the game well. But Man United have quality players, they are in a good moment now.

"They scored when they had their chances. And they went on to win the game because of that."

Joelinton though wanted to leave the final word with the supporters at Wembley with over 32,000 fans making an incredible noise.

The former Hoffenheim star said: "Like always the fans were behind us. They have helped us all season. They help us and push us. We gave them everything, we tried everything on the pitch.

"We wanted to give our away end the cup but sadly it was not possible. We will keep going and maybe one day we can. We will keep going."
