Joe Worrall in the spotlight as Wayne Hennessey blows chance to stop Nottingham Forest transfer

Nottingham Forest's Carabao Cup run looks to be effectively over after a 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United in the semi-final first leg last night.

It was a difficult night for some with Joe Worrall and Wayne Hennessey coming under the spotlight more than most with Worrall and Remo Freuler at fault for the first goal and Hennessey arguably in a position to have done better with all three.

We discussed some of the big talking points on the latest Garibaldi Red podcast with host Matt Davies, Forza Garibaldi's Greg Mitchell and chief football writer for the i newspaper, Daniel Storey. You can listen to the full episode here or watch it here.

Is Joe Worrall going to make it in the Premier League long-term?

GM: "For me, in the part of the league where we are, he's having good games against the teams around us, the ones we have to beat. The truly world class players like Rashford, they show our weaknesses.

"I think some of the flak towards him was unwarranted and almost lazy but that goal didn't look great. You'd hope we're looking to strengthen in areas like that, not to replace him but to have competition."

DS: "The move to 4-3-3 really helped. Playing three centre-backs made the outer ones come out wide to cover and slow defenders struggle there.

"With 4-3-3 the problem comes if the full-back, normally Aurier, pushes up high and Joe has to cover wide. It really doesn't suit him. In a formation and system that works I get it. I think he's a decent defender.

"He's not at Man United level. We're a promoted team who have lost to the better teams because they're better than us. He's not a defender to write off by any means."

MD: "With Aurier, I don't know what's happened to him the last two games. He was poor against Bournemouth and it was like the Charge of the Light Brigade last night. He's shooting up the other end of the pitch and leaving behind him the most in-form player in England, possibly Europe, in Rashford.

"I think Forest should have been doubling up on him with Aurier and Worrall or Freuler. That's something that needs addressing. You can't leave Rashford that kind of space."

Did Forest miss Ryan Yates in midfield?

DS: "They missed Yates. They need someone to get amongst it. Remo Freuler and Danilo can be parts of Ryan's game but I don't think they replicate all of it. I don't think they want to.

"Even if it takes him going out wide or dropping in to fight a fire, Ryan knows that team better than anyone and it gives Forest an advantage. I thought Danilo was good.

"He's a bit raw, which is understandable. He's young and he's not played much recently. He doesn't seem a typical Steve Cooper defensive midfielder. He's more of a progressive defensive midfielder, winning the ball high up the pitch when he has protection behind him. We didn't have that protection last night."

MD: "They need to define Freuler's role with Danilo. I'm not sure what it was last night.

"To me he needs to sit deeper if you're going to have Scarpa in a midfield three. There's going to be a period of adaptation certainly."

Is it time to buy a new goalkeeper to replace Hennessey with Henderson injured?

DS: "Hennessey is a goalkeeper that has a level. He's been at Palace and Burnley for a long time. He's a workmanlike goalie who doesn't make spectacular saves.

"None of them last night were mistakes but I'd back Dean to save at least one of them. I'd back him to cover his near post, to push that long range shot out wide and the third goal, it's not right in the corner.

"I wouldn't buy a new goalkeeper if Dean Henderson was ours but let's work on the basis that we're only going to get seven or eight more games from him. At that point it's a no brainer if there's a goalkeeper who is a long-term option, why wouldn't you go for him?"

MD: "I think Dean Henderson would have done better with all three and that's a problem for Hennessey. The question becomes how long is Henderson out for and will he be here next season? You get the impression he won't be here next season if Forest are looking."

GM: "Where's Dean Henderson going to go next season? He seems to have burned his bridges at Old Trafford. I'd love to sign Dean Henderson. If we do go for one of the two we're linked with then that's a clear sign he won't hang around."
