TV presenter Joe Wicks is inviting people in Cardiff once again to take part in a 5km run with him. The well known fitness guru announced he's coming to the capital on Wednesday, May 4, following last year's successful mass jog.
Wicks also known as The Body Coach, helped families keep fit during lockdown with his free online fitness classes, which were viewed by millions worldwide. On Wednesday, he will be waiting outside the Pierhead Building at 6.45am to take local fans for a run around the city. You can read all our Cardiff stories here.
The 36-year-old advertised the run on both his Twitter and Instagram story, writing: "Would love for your to join me". It comes after he led a successful run with locals around Cardiff, starting from Havannah Street pay and display car park, last October. Dozens of fans joined him, and they wasted no time in teaching him a snippet of the Welsh language while they had the chance.
The event in October was part of his two-week UK tour for his new children's book The Burpee Bears, which saw him invite people to join him on his early morning runs in each destination he visited. Wicks is no stranger to rallying community spirit for exercise. In 2020 he was awarded a Guinness World Record after 950,000 people watched his "lifestream" in March.
In the same year, meanwhile, he donated proceeds from sales of his fitness videos to the NHS and also raised £2m for Children in Need with a 24-hour fitness challenge. He was also made an MBE in the Queen’s 2020 birthday honours, and has previously spoken about his tough childhood in which he thought he would not amount to achieve "anything great". In March this year, the coach was honoured at Windsor Castle for his services to fitness as well as charity in the UK and abroad, rubbing shoulders at the event with Queen drummer Roger Taylor and Trigger Point star Adrian Lester.
