Joe Lycett says that David Beckham has responded to his money-shredding stunt.
Last month, the comedian issued an ultimatum to the former England captain where he called for Beckham to pull out of his deal – reportedly worth £10 million – with Qatar, where homosexuality is illegal.
If the former England captain did not pull out of the deal, Lycett said he would shred £10,000.
The following day, the comedian filmed himself shredding wads of money although it was later revealed that he had in fact donated it to an LGBTQ+ charity.
And now, the Travel Man presenter has now confirmed that Beckham has addressed the stunt and his response will feature on his Channel 4 special on Thursday.
He tweeted: “David Beckham’s team have issued my programme with an exclusive statement, which will be broadcast tonight as part of my Got Your Back special at 9pm on @channel4.
“As far as we are aware this is the only statement he or his team have given to any outlet regarding his involvement in Qatar.
“I have been advised that legally I cannot give my opinion on it, so you’ll have to make up your own minds.”
Lycett continued: “We also speak to some LGBTQ+ football teams and Dr Nasser Mohamed, the first openly gay Qatari, who Beckham blocked on Instagram. We also reunite some of the cast of Footballers’ Wives lol
“I’d like to thank the Got Your Back team and the team at Channel 4 for their extraordinary hard work on this project.”
Previously, Lycett revealed that Beckham’s representatives had contacted him in the wake of his shredding stunt.

Speaking to Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel on The News Agents podcast, Lycett said: “I’ve not heard directly from Beckham. We have had some movement with his people.
“Basically, we’ve had some contact with them but legally at the minute, I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say.
“I’m not satisfied with where we’ve got to, let’s put it that way.”
Asked if Beckham’s team had offered any donations, Lycett continued: “They’re not offering anything really. They’re just talking to us a little bit.
“I think they’re just trying to get it to go away really. Which it will eventually, and it won’t affect him long-term.”
