Joe Lycett defends himself after police investigation into joke at one of his shows

Joe Lycett appeared on BBC’s The One Show on Friday, June 24. The comedian, who is heading for a new tour titled ‘More More More, How do you Lycett? How do you Lycett?’ defended a joke, which led to a fan calling the police on him as he appeared on BBC The One Show.

Hailing from Birmingham, the comedian revealed an audience member reported one of his jokes to the cops when performing at his new tour in Belfast. The 33-year-old told hosts of The One Show, Alex Jones and Ronan Keating that he found it "hilarious" when the police called him out over the joke.

He said: "Everyone has different opinions but I did think it was quite extreme the police were called. He continued: "Because the joke in question... to me it's not offensive at all. It's quite unusual, it's quite a full-on thing to hear but it's not offensive to any group of people.''

"It's not racist, it's not homophobic, obviously, it's not misogynist. It's just silly’’, Lycett explained. ‘‘I can see how someone a bit uptight would be cross about it. I found the whole thing so funny and when the police rang I thought it was hilarious.’’

"I was willing to go to court, I wanted to be in jail. I think it was so funny that the police got involved." Joe also shared that this event was not the first time he had been visited by the police over his comedy.

Lycett’s new comedy show is based on a four-year prank that he committed to for four years. He said: "I did it completely in secret...It is my favourite thing I've ever done in my life and I won't spoil it, I won't tell the story here, but it became accidentally quite beautiful but also funny and ridiculous.
