Joe Lolley sends emotional message as Nottingham Forest transfer confirmed

Former Nottingham Forest man Joe Lolley has sent an emotional goodbye message to fans after completing a transfer away from the City Ground.

The winger completed a move to Australian side Sydney FC on Monday morning, bringing an end a four-and-a-half year spell with Forest. Lolley featured in the early part of pre-season for Steve Cooper’s men but has since been training with the club’s U23s as he searched for a new club.

He featured in both legs of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United, but was an unused substitute for the final at Wembley Stadium. The 29-year-old made a total of 169 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and providing 27 assists.

Following the confirmation of his move down under, Lolley’s goodbye message to fans was shared by the club on social media. In it he reminisced about the day at Wembley.

“Hi Forest fans,” he wrote. “Thank you for your messages, some amazing highs and some bad lowa but an incredible journey lasting four and a half years.

“I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for all your support both on the pitch and in and around the city throughout my time here, your kindness and support has a special place in my heart. I always gave everything I had on the pitch for this club and to be able to end the journey being part of a team that made its way to Wembley and into the Premier League after so many years brings nothing but immense pride, to know we were able to bring so much happiness to the city on that day at Wembley is a feeling that’s hard to explain.

“I always knew Forest were a huge club but it wasn’t until I was here and witnessed the support game in, game out, home and away through the good and the bad you realise how truly special the club is and how much this city loves its football and its team.

“I hope you all enjoy the Premier League and you get the opportunity to enjoy many more great moments and memories. I’m sure to see you at the world famous City Ground sometime in the future.”

Lolley will have to wait until October to make his debut for his new club. Sydney FC kick off their league campaign against Melbourne Victory on October 8, 2022.
