Joe Keery wore his original Stranger Things costume to officiate his friend's wedding.
The 33-year-old actor-and-musician recently went viral after photos emerged of him marrying a couple while wearing the Scoops Ahoy uniform his alter ego Steve Harrington donned in season three of the show, and he's insisted he wasn't the only one dressed up for the occasion, despite the pictures circulating online suggesting otherwise.
Speaking on The Tonight Show, he said: “Amy Parris, who does costumes for the show, lent me the costume. There’s a dozen costumes.”
The wedding was between his friend and Post Animal bandmate Matt Williams and Veronica Capaldi and it was the bride who urged Joe to dress as Steve.
He said: “I was on tour earlier this year, and Matt and Veronica, who are in this picture, they’re getting married
“Veronica was like, ‘I think it’d be great. It’s a costume wedding. It’s Halloween. You should go as [Steve].’
“I mean, it looks like I just did this for two random people. These are my friends! There’s a bunch of people in costumes!”
Showing a photo of the entire wedding party, he added: “We’ve got Wes [Toledo] as the Riddler. Shrek over there.”
Despite the Scoops Ahoy costumes worn by Steve and colleague Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) being favourites of fans, Joe admitted he had petitioned to get The Duffer Brothers to change his look, having worn the outfit "for a good year of [his] life".
He added: “I kind of had thought, you know, we’re in the action, there’s Russians we’re fighting, we’re in an underground lair and stuff… shouldn’t I take off the blouse part? Maybe the handkerchief? I could lose the handkerchief.”
“And the Duffer Brothers [said], ‘Oh, no, no, no — I think you should keep the whole thing. It’s a look. The whole thing is a look.’”
But with more than six years having passed since Joe wore the outfit on the show, he admitted it wasn't quite as comfortable at the wedding.
He said: “It was a little tighter this time around, I gotta be honest with you. The shorts didn’t fit quite the same.”
