Joe Joyce has confirmed that he will return to boxing despite recent rumours over the British boxing legend retiring.
Joe Joyce Confirms Boxing Return Despite Retirement Rumours
Joyce was last seen in a decision defeat to Derek Chisora in July of this year and many questioned if that was his final appearance in the ring.
The Juggernaut has been defeated three times in his career, losing to Chisora twice and Zhilei Zhang – with these defeats coming in his last four fights.
Fans have called for the 39-year-old to retire but Joyce took to social media to say: “Count Joe Joyce out at your peril.”
An opponent for his return has yet to be confirmed but there are several options for the veteran, including Lawrence Okolie who beat Hussein Muhamed in the first round on his heavyweight debut.
Okolie confirmed his interest in fighting Joyce if the offer made sense, with the two being team mates on the Olympic team.
Richard Torrez, an undefeated US heavyweight, also called out the Juggernaut after the American stopped Issac Munoz Gutierrez last time out.
Torrez said: “I wouldn’t turn it down. The one guy I’ve always called out is Joe Joyce. That would be the only guy I would call out right now.”
As previously mentioned, Joyce has only been defeated by two fighters in his career but the damage and punishment from these bouts has taken some time of his boxing journey.
The Juggernaut is unlikely to fight for a world championship, with his best chance coming against Zhang – as a win would have put him within touching distance of a shot at a title.
An exact return date is yet to be confirmed but Joyce announced that he is back in a training camp, with the 39-year-old set to return to the ring in 2025.
