Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager stepped up in a huge way for his team in front of a home crowd in the bottom of the ninth in Game 1 of the 2023 World Series on Friday night.
Going into the ninth, the Rangers trailed the Diamondbacks, 5-3, and center fielder Leody Taveras opened the bottom of the inning by getting the lead-off walk. A couple batters later, Seager was up.
And Seager must have liked what he saw on his first pitch because he swung big and blasted a mammoth home run to tie the game, which ultimately went into extra innings. The crowd at Globe Life Field sounded absolutely electric, but Fox’s Joe Davis delivered an incredible call of Seager’s homer.
"Could tie it with one swing. HIGH DRIVE… IT'S TIED!"
Joe Davis was all over that Corey Seager homer. ⚾️💣🎙️ https://t.co/eHy6bGeXSz

Game 1 was an exciting one, but this is simply a great call for an awesome World Series moment.
And baseball fans praised Davis not only for his call but also for letting the moment land:
And this call be Joe Davis is perfect, he knew it was gone, made it known, and then let a juiced up crowd and the fireworks speak for itself. https://t.co/uLlZBuorgG

That was an unbelievable call by John Smoltz and Joe Davis.
Smoltz introduced Corey Seager by saying he’s got the ability to turn on the high fastball. Seager wastes no time in doing so and Davis does the rest.
Goosebumps.

Just after John Smoltz says Corey Seager has hit some high fastballs and Joe Davis reminds, “He could tie the game with one swing of the bat.”
Seager does both an instant later on the first pitch. https://t.co/xmx7pQlLmE— Ed Werder (@WerderEdESPN) October 28, 2023
