Joe Burrow Provides Optimistic Update on Calf Injury After Blowout Loss vs. Titans

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is off to a rocky start to the season as he works to get back to full strength following an offseason calf injury.

On Wednesday, following Cincinnati’s 27–3 defeat against the Titans in Week 4, Burrow provided an update on his calf injury, indicating to reporters that he’s trending in the right direction.

“This is the best I’ve felt after a game. So I am optimistic,” said Burrow, via Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.

The Bengals will look to bounce back in Week 5 after a lackluster 1–3 start to the season. They’ll be on the road in Glendale as they take on the Cardinals on Sunday.

Burrow made clear how critical it is for Cincinnati to pick up a win in that game.

“Gotta win. Whatever it takes. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but have to come out with a W,” Burrow said, via James Rapien of All Bengals

Through the first four games of the 2023 season, Burrow has thrown just two touchdown passes. He has failed to throw a touchdown pass in three of those four games and has completed a career-low 57.4% of his pass attempts with two interceptions.

In Week 4, Burrow was held under 175 passing yards for the second time this season. While his play on the field didn’t inspire much optimism from fans, his comments on Wednesday suggest he’ll be closer to his old self on Sunday against Arizona.
