Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow actually apologized to head coach Zac Taylor and, presumably, others within the organization after finding out his injury was a season-ender.
So says a writeup from Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, which features Taylor in borderline disbelief over it:
Taylor said Burrow apologized to him upon sharing the news on Friday. The coach could only laugh at the concept of Burrow suffering a freak injury, but still feeling guilty for letting his team down.
Not only was it a little outrageous for Taylor, he made sure to point out that the same work that went into Burrow getting to this point will likely fuel his big comeback next season.
“The time and energy he puts into his body and making sure he’s at his best for this organization, you know, it kills you to watch someone have to go through this several times now,” Taylor said, per Dehner. “That’s football. Quarterbacks are going to deal with this kind of stuff.”
As of this writing, Burrow and the team are still plotting an official course of action. But the plan will likely include surgery, which Taylor has said doesn’t really come with any long-term risk.
