Joe Biden, Donald Trump plan 11th-hour campaign stops in Miami for Florida candidates

MIAMI — President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are doing last-minute South Florida campaign stops to boost their party’s candidates ahead of the midterm election.

A week before the election, Biden is campaigning with U.S. Rep. Val Demings and Charlie Crist in Miami Gardens, according to the campaigns of both Democratic candidates.

Biden, whose visit to South Florida will be his first political event in the state since he took office, was already scheduled to attend a fundraiser on Nov. 1 for Crist, who is challenging Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. The Democratic National Committee later said Biden would also be hosting a rally to boost Democratic candidates.

The rally will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exact location has not been announced yet.

In a dueling Miami-Dade County event days later, former President Donald Trump announced Wednesday he is set to stump for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio. The Nov. 6 get-out-the-vote rally will be at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition. Trump is expected to take the stage at 5 p.m.

It was not immediately clear if DeSantis — who has risen as a national GOP figure in past years and has not denied a potential presidential run in 2024 — would attend. He was not mentioned in the announcement.

While Democrats have historically dominated in Miami-Dade County, Trump is well-liked among South Florida Hispanics and there are growing signs to suggest Republicans could overtake Democrats in the county on Nov. 8. Biden ultimately won Miami-Dade by 7 percentage points in 2020.
