Joe Aribo's lack of game time at Southampton 'will change' according to Nathan Jones as the former Rangers star remains frozen out.
Aribo was a key part of the Ibrox furniture under Steven Gerrard and then Gio Van Bronckhorst, helping to lead the Light Blues to a historic Europa League final in Seville in which his strike nearly captured glory for Rangers. What followed was a £10m move to the South Coast that saw the Glasgow club lose their prize asset.
The 26-year-old got off to life in the English Premier League brightly under Ralph Hasenhuttl but has found himself frozen out of action recently. The attacking midfielder has played no part in the Saints previous four games, but new boss Jones insists he has been 'unlucky' and will not be leaving the club this soon.
He said: "Joe is someone I want to keep here. I like Joe, Joe is definitely someone I'd like to be here. He's been a bit unlucky not to play since Palace but that will change."
Jones previously said: "Look, what we have to do is keep moving everyone forward.
“What we can’t do is literally just hold a load of players and keep them. Because then you have passengers and passengers become problematic in the end. So you can’t do that. We want a small tight squad but we need certain things in the squad.
"We need certain things improved in the squad in terms of maybe a little bit of size, maybe a little bit more aggression, maybe a tiny bit more quality to add a bit of potency. And once we’ve got that then yeah, we can make a decision on if we need to move people out - if that’s in the best interest of them and the club."
